“Our garden has been blooming since early Spring and we are in heaven. We use our backyard more often – to eat a meal al fresco, or sit beside the fire table. We use the front door more frequently to enjoy the beautiful landscaping.
In January, CLC completed a five-month landscape renovation for our home in Maplewood, New Jersey. The project involved the entire property. We filled in a sunken patio in the back yard to bring it up to the same grade as the lawn. CLC removed a poured concrete retaining wall on the driveway and replaced it with fieldstone. The stairs to the porch and kitchen door were reconfigured, widening the driveway two feet. In the front yard, CLC built new blue stone walkways and fieldstone pillars on a landing next to the street.
The project ran smooth as glass from start to finish. CLC managed every subcontractor seamlessly. The communication was incredible – we were always informed about what was planned on a given day or week. We had several months of heavy equipment and mud – unavoidable given the scale of the project. But the crew was always conscientious. They kept walkways tidy, closed fences for our dog, and stopped work to help our elderly parent to and from a car. The crew are amazing craftsmen. Their attention to detail and quality of their work is unparalleled. There were no major problems, despite unique challenges re-routing gutters, and solving for regular soggy spots when it rained.
It was so exciting when sod, bushes, trees, and flowers were planted. In a couple of days, the project went from hardscape to fully planted and trimmed. CLC walked us through the placement of plants to show off the architecture of the house and to bring color in drab winter months.
I whole-heartedly recommend CLC for renovations large or small. The constant communication with the foreman, project manager, and owners made us feel very confident that the project was in excellent hands and we could raise a concern before it became a roadblock. Since the majority of our backyard has an easement running through it, we needed a company who has experience with complex projects, partners with the right subcontractors, and is familiar with our town’s regulations. I reached out to CLC Landscape Design and Rich Cording, the owner, took time to review our survey to confirm that a pool was feasible given the easement.
We first met with Frank, our landscape designer, who had all the right landscaping / pool design ideas. After incorporating the things that we really wanted as part of our pool/backyard redesign, he came back with 3 different landscape designs that really brought our vision to life.
Once we landed on the right design, CLC began the process to transform our backyard to our dream oasis. Gary, our project manager, who never missed a beat, seamlessly coordinated the team and all the subcontractors to get the job done timely and without any issues. The project entailed a 34×16 pool, decking and bluestone pavers, fire pit, retailing/seat walls, rockeries, landscape lighting and Rich Jr’s artistic selection of plants and trees, which he strategically placed to truly stand out!
While CLC employees each have a craft of their own, I have to call out Delfino, who was the “on the ground one-of-a-kind” guy that gets the work done with perfection!

"Huge project for us, couldn't have done it without CLC. Hire them, you wont regret it. Started working on pool/backyard overhaul with Rich Sr and Kevin the designer to get our ideas on paper and a quote. They were flexible when we decided to go with a fiberglass pool, which they dont contract directly for, but we contracted for that separately. Still CLC guided us through process and collaborated with Artistic Pools. In everything they were spot on. When pool company said we don't need retaining wall, they were correct, but the engineer drawing had pool drawn too close to house, due to not having a retaining wall behind pool, so we went back to retaining wall as CLC first recommended and aesthetically it makes the placement of pool so much more pleasing. If you see the pictures it is a low boulder wall that wraps around one corner of pool and it looks natural and pleasing. When engineer we hired put pool equipment in odd place, different from Kevin of CLC's design, and he said it was due to the side setback, it was Kevin of CLC who had it right that pool equipment is allowed to be within side setback of property and engineer moved it to where CLC said and, yes, town approved it. Everytime, it was CLC who guided this project into the most pleasing design possible. They handled and put in the drainage requirements of my town, they did the paver pool decking and patio. Rich Jr personally supervised much of the project and plantings selection. We really wanted to keep this blending into the nature that surrounds our yard and not have it overly floral (husband has bee allergy) and it was executed wonderfully. In collaboration with pool company CLC contributed to permits process and scheduled most needed visits along the way. The lawn was regraded and sodded by CLC as well. I have done many an interior renovation project, but putting in a pool with a backyard that has a slope and a town that has stringent drainage requirements is highly complex. CLC has a high level of expertise in this. It was 100% worth it to go through the planning and design process and the small cost related, before doing the big project. We were a little worried initially that it would be too expensive to use CLC, as in they do have some very high end customers. However, we cut some expense by going with a poured concrete cantilevered coping and an automatic cover installed by Pennco Automatic Pool Covers. Our pavers and stepping stones are Techo-bloc, which CLC often uses, so we didnt have to use expensive bluestone. We were recommended by CLC to do some landscape lighting and uplights on trees they put in, without breaking the bank, which in combination with the fiberglass pool with LED lights installed by Artistic Pools, makes an incredible nighttime ambience for our evening swims. We have now hired CLC for their Fine Gardening plan. To think we were at one point not sure if going with CLC at one point and now we fully understand the value with going with them and are grateful for all their help. There were so many of their staff who helped us, in addition to those mentioned, Rob, Robert, Al, Sammy and crew, Jeff, thank you all! Wish I could go higher than 5 stars this time, and I've never said that on a review before."

"We moved into a small lake community 1 year ago. There were indoor and outdoor projects that needed attention, particularly the front yard landscape and hardscape. The front walkway was not up to code, and the steps were so short that you had to place your foot sideways to walk. I did some research, asking neighbors and friends who they would recommend, and after 4 different proposals, we chose CLC. The steps were the first project, and after Robert reviewed and gave us some options, we decided on 4 foot wide bluestone steps and reconstruction of sections of the walkway. Jorge showed up on day 1 and worked his magic, finishing the job in a few days and we finally had a safe and beautiful entrance to the house. Next it was landscaping and the there were multiple challenges - clearing out all the old overgrown shrubs, an abundance of shade and a huge deer population in the neighborhood. Robert went over all the different plantings that were ideal for our property and scheduled us for installation. I was happy to see Jorge arrive on planting day and again, he did a beautiful job with spacing, grouping, rockery and drainage. Unfortunately a few days after planting; the neighborhood deer moved in and since they hadn’t read about what they don’t eat - had a feast. A call to Robert with photos indicating what was gone, and a week later we were replanted with new deer proof choices. During the entire project, Robert was a text or phone call away and always responded quickly to my questions. His extensive knowledge gave us confidence during the entire process. Jorge and his team were true craftsmen in everything they did and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend CLC to anyone with an outdoor project - no matter the scale. I smile everyday when I walk to my front door"

"I've used CLC for two large projects and would highly recommend them. They did a full design of my entire house (front yard and back yard) and completed landscaping and sod for both, as well as a new bluestone walk way and front steps. I've also used them for spring time clean ups of all the landscaping. They are very responsive and easy to get in touch with (I have cell phone numbers for all of the folks I've worked with directly, including the owner) and have been helpful with our hundreds of questions throughout the process. They have kept their word on warrantee as well - we've had a few plants not survive and they replaced them without questions. They also re-sodded an area that didn't take properly and are working with me to make sure it does. They are a little pricier than other options, but we've stuck with them for the quality of their products and service. I've had a great experience and would recommend them to anyone looking for professional quality landscape design and installation."
