Landscape Design Project in Wayne, New Jersey
WAYNE WATER GARDEN
This project in Wayne, NJ transformed a plain, wooded backyard into a vibrant retreat centered around a custom water feature. The original space consisted of a flat lawn and scattered trees with no structure or visual focus.
The clients wanted a peaceful setting where they could relax and enjoy the sound and movement of water.
Our design introduced a multi-tiered stream and pondless waterfall that now serves as the heart of the garden.
Built with carefully placed natural stone and boulders, the feature recreates the look of a mountain stream while blending seamlessly into the site. Water flows over a series of rock ledges and pools, adding motion, reflection, and sound that draw the eye through the landscape.
Plantings of ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and specimen shrubs surround the stream, softening the stonework and enhancing the natural feel.
A flagstone path with creeping mazus meanders through the garden, creating layered views of the water from multiple vantage points.
Before
After
Through grading, stone selection, and planting design, this once-simple backyard was reimagined as a sophisticated water garden. The result is a balanced, sensory-rich landscape that feels timeless and deeply connected to its surroundings—inviting the clients to experience the beauty of nature just steps from their home.
