Landscape Design Project in Montclair, New Jersey
MONTCLAIR COURTYARD RESTORATION
This Montclair, NJ client had their fountain repaired and refinished, and we rebuilt the base with a bluestone cap. We also used bluestone as a unique way to border the pea gravel walks and patio.
This not only maintained the European garden aesthetic we were looking for, but stayed within their budget. The entire slate patio was replaced with pea gravel and the main pathway leading to the driveway was replaced with bluestone.
This design centered around a classical Victorian Revival cast iron fountain in desperate need of restoration and repair. This fountain style was inspired by 19th century garden ornaments utilized in courtyards. It was imperative to the client that the home’s old-world charm needed to be reflected throughout the landscape.
Before
After
We used boxwoods to reinforce the courtyard theme and added hydrangeas and other plants for seasonal color. This reimagined courtyard now serves as both a welcoming entryway and a tranquil garden room — a dramatic transformation that honors the property’s old-word charm while creating an elegant, functional outdoor space for modern living.
