Designed for year-round outdoor living, this Award-Winning Montville project transformed a challenging sloped backyard into a beautiful, functional retreat. Installed by our employee of the month, Kyle Knapp, the design features a freeform pool, expansive patio, layered garden beds, natural rockeries, fire features, bubbling fountains, and multiple seating areas. Thoughtful design turned difficult terrain into an inviting landscape where the family can relax, gather, and enjoy the outdoors throughout the seasons.

When most homeowners think about planting, spring usually comes to mind. But here in New Jersey, fall is one of the best times of year to plant trees, shrubs, and many perennials.
Why? While the air begins to cool, the soil remains warm. These conditions allow newly installed plants to focus their energy below ground, developing strong root systems without the stress of summer heat. With cooler temperatures and typically more consistent moisture, plants can establish themselves before winter and be better prepared for vigorous growth when spring arrives.
Studies at both Rutgers and Cornell Universities have shown that survival rates are much higher for plants installed in the fall. Believe it or not, plants are stressed more by summer heat than they are by cold, because they simply go dormant. At CLC, we find that the plants established in autumn grow much faster in the spring.
Most large projects, especially ones with swimming pools, take several months to get permitted. To ensure you can enjoy your yard next summer, start your landscape design process NOW by calling CLC.

This cultivar of Japanese Split-leaf Maple accents any water feature beautifully.
Beyond their spectacular fall color, Japanese maples bring beauty and character to the landscape throughout the seasons. Their smaller scale makes them ideal for creating intimate garden spaces, while their sculptural form adds interest even after the leaves have fallen. When carefully placed within the landscape, a Japanese maple doesn’t simply provide fall color—it creates a moment in the garden worth stopping to enjoy.
